Summary/Abstract: The main purpose of this study is to make a case for behavioral economics, regarded not as a rejection and a replacement of standard, scholastic economics, but as a way to enlarge and increase our insight of real economic processes. The first part argues against one very persistent, and yet inconsistent fiction: homo economicus. Starting from the famous distinction made by Thaler and Sunstein between Econs and Humans, the second part attempts to dismantle this fiction analyzing different logical games and lab experiments, all indicating that real people often behave more or less irrationally, far from the perfect rational decision making of homo economicus. The final part is searching for arguments in favor of behavioral economics in real life decision making.
