Summary/Abstract: The article addresses the problem of the functioning of religion in modern societies. Its purpose is to present the concept of new spirituality and its empirical reflection in the Polish society. As an innovative expression of the interpretation of social reality, it is a response to the growing distancing between the modern man and the traditional institutional forms of collective life. New spirituality as a social phenomenon increasingly permeates modern culture, and as a result of its presence in the social space, systematically extends its influence onto individuals and becomes a permanent element of the functioning of societies. In the perspective of the precarious reality of the modern world, it infiltrates many areas of collective life and effectively affects the attitudes of the contemporary man.
