Summary/Abstract: The main focus of this work is two important events at the global and local level that illustrate how Facebook is gaining more influence in public life. The presidential elections in the United States and those in Bulgaria in 2016 were marked by trends that show a growing influence on the social network - both positively and negatively. This approach aims at finding out how and to what extent this affects these important political events and their results. The way in which news content is presented in the social network to analyze its potential as a new media environment is also analyzed. The study pays attention to the importance of information in the social network, its credibility and its purpose – whether it is to be in favor of the consumer or to manipulate it.
