Summary/Abstract: The complex and fast global changes in various areas of life call for alteration of the existing educational systems worldwide. The change aspires to attain the greatest possible harmony between the desired and possible aims and the requirements of the contemporary society. The alterations carried out by the Croatian educational system and presented in the Croatian National Educational Standard have risen from the same aspiration. The Standard attempts not only to harmonize the Croatian educational system with that of the European Union but also to adapt it to the present and future social and cultural requirements of the Republic of Croatia. It encourages the frequent and concrete correlational approach in both primary and secondary schools. This correlation is manifested in cross-curricular approach regarding two or more subjects along with their mutual harmonization while covering different topics within the teaching process, wherever and as much as possible.
