Summary/Abstract: This paper represents the opening chapter of the monographic research describing the editions of The Mountain Wreath by Petar II Petrović Njegoš as stages in critical reviewing of the poem text, interpreting its 'dark spots', and featuring the editors from the perspective of their contribution to the studies of Njegoš's oeuvre as a discipline based on the poem analysed. The paper argues, on the basis of hard evidence, that the first edition is to the credit of Milorad Medaković, Njegoš's secretary, in cooperation with the author.
