Summary/Abstract: Excess of residential areas is common in almost every commune in Poland, in municipalities adjacent to large cities, this situation is especially noticeable. Suburban municipalities often perform only residential function of large cities, their development proceeds monofunctionally. The reasons for this are the local spatial policy and shortcomings of the spatial planning system in Poland itself. The purpose of the article is to investigate how the spatial policy of the municipality of Aleksandrów Łódzki since 2000 has influenced the development of their residential areas. The work analyzed the planning solutions used by the Municipality of Aleksandrów Łódzki, discussing their positive and negative aspects.
