Summary/Abstract: Albanization of Kosovo and Metohija represents a long lasting process which goes back to the formation of Prizren League in 1878, same year when Berlin Congress was held. Its most intense period was during the Second World War when international occupation factors allowed Albanians to change ethnic composition of these regions by usage of terror and violence. After the Second World War this process reached its peak in Albanian opposition to the new Yugoslav authorities. Numerous groups of former Albanian quislings organized armed groups and started open rebellion. Rebellion was quelled; however in efforts to achieve firm peace distribution of land to Albanian peasantry actually laid foundation to process of balkanization of Kosovo and Metohija. Formation of ethnically homogeneous Albanian villages’ created favorable conditions for Albanians to easily take over the town areas.
