Summary/Abstract: The Cominform resolution passed at the end of 1948 brought to light substantial disagreement between the Yugoslav and Soviet leadership, which eventually led to a rupture in relations between Belgrade and Moscow. Even at its beginning, this huge turmoil in the communist block attracted the attention of the influential western media. From the outbreak of the crisis in summer 1948 the press in the west closely followed the course of the conflict. The causes of the Yugoslav-Soviet conflict were analyzed and the expected moves of both parties and the final outcome of the crisis were predicted. The attention was directed to analyses of possible global consequences of the Cominform Resolution and the Yugoslav-Soviet conflict, with a special focus on anticipating the impact of the conflict between Belgrade and Moscow on the stability of the Soviet sphere of influence. The communist character of the Yugoslav regime was highlighted in some comments published in the western press, which indicates that after the Cominform Resolution the western media saw the Yugoslav regime as equally nondemocratic and totalitarian.
