Summary/Abstract: John Paul II, in the teachings addressed to the youth, paid attention to the requirements associated with the mere fact of being human. He repeatedly emphasized that the main factor leading to happiness is to live one’s life according to the logic of a selfless gift. One of the main challenges that young people have to face is making a conscious effort to develop the talents, abilities that they have been gifted with, even when others do not demand it of them. Setting specific goals associated with personal development for oneself requires tremendous determination and endurance from a young person. The Pope drew the youth’s attention to the need to make this effort, to assume an active attitude towards life, to use their abilities for the individual and common good.
