Summary/Abstract: The article presents the richness of the traditions of the Greek Catholic Church of the Byzantine Ritual. This study concern the subject of the sacrament of marriage. The rite of engagement, which has great symbolism and meaning, contains both in rich theology and tradition. The uniqueness of the rite of engagement consists in expression of future spouses’ consent, while the rite of the marriage itself is aimed at directly introducing the bride and the groom to the fullness of marital life. The theological purpose of the engagement rite is to renew the lost union with God up to the true fullness with Him in eternity. This is the sense and the meaning of the Christian engagement.
