Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the specific characteristics of the traditional Turkish family in the Turkish village as well as the transition of the family to contemporary forms in the towns under the influence of the social development in Turkey in the first half of the XX century. Using valuable sources of information the paper studies the value of marriage, the Turkish traditional wedding, the relations among the members of the family, its structure and functions.
