Summary/Abstract: Tools are one of the basic carriers of culture. Most individual activities, including family practices, have their roots in objects. The introduction of new tools has always been resisted at the beginning because it violated the institutionalized forms of life. Contemporary processes that deeply change the family make old behavior patterns affecting family life useless. Furthermore, tools continue to develop and new devices, such as the computer or the mobile phone, keep coming out. New communication technologies require new behaviourpatterns that institutionalize various forms of family life occurring in liquid modernity.
