Summary/Abstract: The author elaborates the meaning of the principle of forum non conveniens in the common law legal system. He analyzes the court decisions applying this principle in the matter of global limitation of the shipowner's liability. The author agrees with the opinion expressed in the latest court decisions that the court applying the limits of liability prescribed in 1976 Convention on Limitation of Liability for Maritime Claims is not necessarily ''more convenient forum'' than the court applying the (lower) limits of liability prescribed in 1957 International Convention relating to the Limitation of Liability of Owners of Sea-going Ships.
