Summary/Abstract: Cooperation between Russia and EU in the field of energy is being perceived as one of the priorities of a new framework document to be negotiated by the two sides, given the fact that the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement in force will expire next year. This new document should confirm, among others, the principles of the market economy and those of Treaty for Energetic Charter, signed by Russia in 1991, but not yet ratified by the Duma. Irrespective of the relations with Russia, EU countries will extend gradually the principles of a single energy market to their neighborhood and enhance their cooperation with other rich-oil and gas countries, in order to diversify the supplies from other energetic markets and through different transit corridors.
