Summary/Abstract: Erzya compound words of the subordinative type are examined from different angles, drawing on material from the encyclopedia ”Mordovia”. The methods used are the descriptive method, methods of quantitative and qualitative analysis, continuous sampling and systematisation. In terms of etymology, determinative compounds can be identified as genuinely Erzyan, Russian and mixed. The analysis of word-building patterns revealed that those models where the first component is a noun, an adjective, or a verb are very productive, whereas compounds where the first components are participles or adverbs are very few.
