“Cost-sharing” in Modern Alliances

Summary/Abstract: This study investigates the question of burden-sharing in the case of NATO and Warsaw Pact during the Cold War. The classic theory of Mancur Olson will be tested against club theory applied by Todd Sandler. The results shows that the first perspective explain better the evolution of contributions in both alliances.
