Civil Society Organizations and their Role in Promoting Security and Defense Policy Reform in Romania

Summary/Abstract: Contemporary analyses with regard to the reform of the armed forces often emphasize the importance of democratic control. Traditionally, the mechanism of democratic control has been described as a set of rules governing the relationship between the military and civilian leadership. This article extends the connotation of civil from the civilian leadership to civil society, proposing an evaluation of civil society organizations active in the Romanian defense sphere.
