Summary/Abstract: The subject of the article is the formation of the concept of a hermit or an anchorite in the light of the codification of the Latin Church law after the Second Vatican Council. The legislator in the can. 603 CCL uses two terms of a hermit and an anchorite which used interchangeably have a rich semantics presented by the author which roots date back to Christian antiquity. The legislator in the CIC did not regulate the canonical status of the eremitic life in the Latin Church. It was only in the period of the codification after the Second Vatican Council the canonical norm regulating the eremitic life was redacted. As a result of the codification works in the can. 603 CCL the eremitic life was recognized as one of the forms of individual consecrated life. The eremitic life in the modern times, both in the Byzantine and Latin traditions, is developing again, attracting both women and men with its beauty.
