Summary/Abstract: Taking into consideration Nušić’s novel The Nine-hundred-fifteenth (A tragedy of a nation) literary critics came to a conclusion that a historical novel with not too great artistic achievements was, without a doubt, in question. If the value of artistic achievements is determined according to the universality within the constituent elements of a piece of art, we will try to point to the existence of such elements in The Nine-hundred-fifteenth, but not to those elements which link this novel to a modern novel, based on war experience, such as The Journal of Čarnojević by Miloš Crnjanski.
