Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the way of life of a farmhand in two villages near Križevci in NW Croatia during the years 1943 and 1944. The account is based on the diary of Jože Tajčman, born in the year 1918 at Čurile near Metlika, in which he noted down his impressions about his everyday life and work during the Second World War years. It was his intention to record unfamiliar habits and interesting events in the new cultural surroundings where the winds of war had brought him: the island of Rab in Dalmatia, Padova (Italy), and finally Križevci, where he worked as a farmhand.
