Social Authority of Labour - A Chance for Democracy

Summary/Abstract: In view of the decisive role of politics in the establishment of socialist societies in the past, the democratization of the political sphere emerges as one of the key problems of modern societies. To the socialist, this democratization requires the social legalisation of the decisive power of labour. Human equality can be realized only by making people equal in labour itself, not through the medium of materialized labour. However, the self-management model of society cannot be completely »cleaned« of all economic and political mediation. The market laws, which are immanent in it, presuppose and "produce" democracy as a political model. The fundamental issue of the political theory of socialism is how to transcend the market economy and its political and social consequences.
