Summary/Abstract: In this paper the author discusses village architecture. For his analysis he uses facts from the research of two villages located on the eastern part of the island of Hvar. The author sets up two models: the first speaks about the interrelations between history and ethnology, and in the second model he creates a kind of a semiological approach to architecture. Through the rhetorical system of connotations the author analyzes relations between the notions of one’s own and alien spaces.
