Summary/Abstract: Understanding and accepting a type or model of a criminal trial involves knowing not only the current form in which it is expressed in terms of normative but also the evolutionary process in which it has crystallized. The moment of Union in 1918 was a key moment in the evolution of the Romanian criminal model, setting many of the landmarks on which its modern form is based. The challenges of uniting a multiplicity of legislation in historical provinces with systems traditionally in incapable positions and how they have been managed are undoubtedly a source of inspiration for solving current problems. The study aims to analyze these challenges and their manifestations during the transition period, with a further reference to the particular situation of Basarabia, where the Russian criminal law was abolished virtually at the time of the Great Union.
