AN INVESTIGATION OF VIEWS ON VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AMONG UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this study is to investigate university students’ views on violence against women. The participants of the study were 18 universty students (9 male and 9 female) students which are studying in Düzce University School of Business Administration. Average age of participants is 20,1. Semi-structured interview technique has been used as the data collection method and content analysis has been employed in the research. In the research, it was revealed that the most used word for defining the concept of violence by the participants is “pressure” (9 people). In the interviews, it was seen that the participants were used beating (2 people), stress, irritability, anger(2 people), suffer (2 people) or harming the environment (2 people), expressions the most after the “pressure” expression. In the statements that the participants give, who committed violence is determined. According to this, when violence against women is told in the interviews, it was seen that “husband violence” (6 people) expression used the most. It was determined that the expressions after the husband, boy friend (4 people), parents (2 people), external environment (2 people) and sibling (1 person), violence is in mention. In the scope of the research, the suggestions for preventing the violence against women were asked to male and female participants. The most stated suggestions are regulation of dissuasive legal actions against violence, give education and raise awareness on choosing the right partner.
