Summary/Abstract: Because most of the Black Sea riparian states do not agree on the idea to change the legal status of the Black Sea Straits, by modifying the Montreux Convention of 1936, a good diplomatic initiative for Romania would be to propose to Turkey to settle any future dispute on the legal status of the Straits by convincing Ankara to become a member in the Montego Bay Treaty – the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. Thus, Romania could contribute to the development of regional co-operation in the Black Sea area.
