Summary/Abstract: The scientific problem of the paper is to define a soldier’s ethos while performing tasks in the Armed Forces at the turn of the 20th and 21st century. To this end, it was considered that place of serving, tradition and military education form the soldier’s ethos. This paper discusses the extent to which these values have become the basis for forming the artilleryman’s ethos in the Węgorzewo garrison at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries. From 1949, a military unit existed in the Węgorze-wo garrison. Over the years, its name, subordination and scope of tasks have changed. This influenced the formation of the artillery garrison with pedigree and combat experience. Research on the soldier’s ethos refers to the activities of the 1st Mazurian Artillery Brigade named after General Józef Bem, operating from September 3, 1993 to December 31, 2010. It was reformed by order of his superiors in the 11th Mazurian Artillery Regiment on January 1, 2011. It took over traditions its predecessor as well as earlier artillery brigades stationed in Węgorzewo. The Artillery Regiment is an independent unit of rocket and artillery subordinate directly to the Land Forces Commander and performs similar tasks as previous brigades.
