Summary/Abstract: The "loss of rationality" occurs in the dynamic scientific-technical civilisation as a result of a reduction in the conditions ensuring rationality of action, partly due to the change of knowledge caused by scientific growth and partly due to the intensification of the consequences of action within the totality of the complex system. This civilisation is distinguished also by the disappearance of the values of tradition, tradition being merely something taken for granted in the sphere of culture, ensuring orientation and guiding action. Finally, It is also distinguished by a "loss of experience", such as existed in previous civilisations. A major feature of the scientific-technical civilisation is a change in the relationship between culture and time, illustrated by the example of the increasingly intensive reference to the past in the cultural and social life of individuals and communities.
