Disciplinary punishment imposed on detainees deprived of their liberty: from antiquity to modern times, with particular emphasis on Polish and Russian legal solutions

Summary/Abstract: The subject of the analysis is, first of all, the evolution of the model of enforc¬ing imprisonment from antiquity to modern times, with particular emphasis on the role of disciplinary punishment in the mechanism of ensuring order and preventing detainees from escaping. The author also describes the trans¬formations of disciplinary penalties imposed on convicts serving sentences of imprisonment in Poland from the time of partitions until modern times. The article also presents applicable legal solutions in the Russian Federation in the field of disciplinary punishment of persons in penitentiary isolation. The arti¬cle concludes with a summary presenting similarities and differences between penitentiary systems of the Russian Federation and Poland in terms of discipli¬nary punishment of persons serving sentences of imprisonment.
