Summary/Abstract: The author of the article analyses the problem of Post-Gothicism as a narrative practice whose stylistic and plot repertoire was exhausted already in the 20th century which forced writers to create more elaborate meta-literary plays. In the contemporary Polish literature the works of Andrzej Sapkowski can be perceivedas a case of balancing between the creative use of Gothic rhetoric and its conscious discrediting. The author discusses this using an example of a triad: “an uncanny place, its atmosphere and a legend connected with it.” He also analyses the stereotype of an antagonist – a Gothic villain or a vampire.
