Summary/Abstract: The linking of new technologies with old media systems has been able to develop thanks to three instances of technical innovation: the digital transmission of information, large scale memorizing of data, and the spreading of global telecommunication networks. On the base of this innovation transnational oligopoli have been developing. The tendencies towards concentration m information industry have had a number of significant consequences in politics, economy, and the social relationships. These are: the internationalization of information industry, the commercialization and privatization of the information sector, the interconnecting of different media, services, and goods controlled by a single concern, the strengthening of political power through the control of information banks and communication channels, the mediocrity of media production, the increased quality of professional and specialized communication. For each of these consequences illustration is offered through examples from the activity of information corporations.
