Summary/Abstract: Through narrations, we establish a relationship with the past and tradition. Linking narration with the question of identity and its construction enables better insight and understanding of the changes that have occurred at the time of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, as well as during its reign in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In this regard, the work of art as a cultural product that represents a realized or potential individual or social identifications also participates in the constitution of identity. If the identity is accepted as a performance/image, the role of literature as one of the factors in the formation of this performance is multidimensional. On the one hand, it stimulates the collective and has an enlightening character; while on the other hand, it aims at uniting the collective, and the process of its national and identity awareness. The paper examines the relational dimension of literature, whose importance is determined not only within the world of fiction, but outside it, directed towards current social moment.
