Summary/Abstract: This article points out the totalitarian dimensions of the French Revolution the main agents of which appealed to freedom and democracy as to the legitimization of the applied terror. Jacobin democracy can be seen as a historical vanguard of the totalitarian systems in the 20th century. The slogan of freedom implemented by terror is a pattern of action two hundred years old.
