Summary/Abstract: According to the author, one of the main issues in the protection of personal data is the privacy of personal data, the inviolability of privacy, as well as data protection in the digital environment and data processing. The aim of the work is to find out whether the Latvian legal acts acts comply with the new Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data, repealing Directive 95/46 / EC (General Data Protection Regulation) (hereinafter referred to as the «Regulation») in the protection of personal data. The main conclusion made, the right of a person to protection of personal data derives from the fundamental right of a person to private life the inviolability of private life. The right to the protection of personal data can be extended to be applied to all physical persons regardless of their location and legal status. Personal data is still being transferred to third parties and the data is processed without the consent of the person.
