Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with the issue of relationship between fiction and reality in a literary work, with particular emphasis on the theme of exile. For this purpose, the text addresses two authors of the twentieth century Italian literary tradition: Alberto Moravia and Carlo Levi. In the novel La Ciociara, Moravia skillfully incorporates autobiographical moments of his own experience of war and exile into a fictional story adorned with his own toponymy and spatiality. On the other hand, Levi’s political persecution status is shown as "more real" in his work Christ stopped at Eboli, which actually becomes a travel diary and an anthropological essay.
