Summary/Abstract: Schmitt’s definition of war is connected with the concept of the political and thus also with the state. War indicates political grouping into friends and enemies. War is an external manifestation of hostility. Schmitt agrees with Platon’s position that a people cannot wage war against itself and that a civil war is not a war. War is the condition of survival and expansion for every political community and it therefore offers an insight into the foundations of the concept of politics.
