Summary/Abstract: In the work the author discusses the complex phenomenon of interdependence in the system of economic sciences. Special attention is given to the interdisciplinary character of research in education economics. Although the term "historical development" cannot easily be connected with the length of existence of education economics, viewpoints on the mutual dependence of the income (wealth) earned and corresponding level of the nation's education can be found in the works of classics of economic thought. A significant turning point in the research of education economics commences with the emergence of the theory of human capital. In addition to analysing the contribution of education to economic growth, this theory underlines the monetary and non-monetary benefits it brings.
