Summary/Abstract: During the first years of Poland’s independence the process of the state restoration absorbed huge sums of money from the state financial resources. The threat of the outbreak of a military conflict between Poland and Soviet Russia called for an immediate creation of military forces. The article, using the source documents and data analyses, juxtaposes the government expenditures on the military forces with the other government spending at that time. It compares military spending in Poland and Germany. It also describes the methods used by the Ministry of Military Affairs for obtaining additional funds, e.g. from the budgets of other Ministries. Thanks to those additional funds the budget of the Ministry of Military Affairs received a substantial financial support, amounting to 50–100 million Polish zlotys per year in the period of the years of 1925–1939.
