Summary/Abstract: In this paper, I highlight the importance of the French language as a cross-cultural key element in the 19th and 20th centuries. This holds true in particular for the development of the Bulgarian language, culture and Europeanisation. This study will examine some examples and illustrate the importance of the French language after Bulgaria proclaimed independence.
