Summary/Abstract: The history of religion, which has an impact on the intercultural communication, nds its lasting expression in the literary discourse. On the example of the literary dialogue between Karahasan‘s Eastern Diwan and Goethe‘s West-Eastern Diwan, we observe, on the one hand, a distinction between the cultural and religious communities and, on the other, a border shift that can be understood in terms of religious history, but is not supported by cultural history. While in the secondary literature the reception of Goethe‘s point of view is uncritical with regard to the self-reflection, the reception of Karahasan‘s work only recognizes a locally valid topic that addresses a one-sidedly expressed world of appearances.
