Summary/Abstract: As a child, Maupassant received musical education; later on, he could be found in the heart of musical life in Paris. Frequenting well-known Parisian salons and the Opera House, being very sensitive to the music typical of the countries he visited, Maupassant described it and made pertinent comments on music in his letters, Chroniques or short stories and novels. According to him, the music of a real travel opens an interior travel; thus, art transcends places and creates some privileged moments in-between silence and music. Tongue music is translated by writing, especially due to synesthesia, and becomes a feast of all the senses. Being an explorer of the tongue and rhythm of the sentence, Maupassant led this analysis to the number of syllables and alliteration. His musical experience based not only on aural, but also on tactile, olfactory, visual senses remembers Messiaen, who saw colours when he listened to sounds.
