Summary/Abstract: The study maps a relationship between famous writer of adventure books Jaroslav Foglar and Czech tramps. Based on that, it formulates a thesis on the hybrid character of Czech “tramping”, a backto-nature movement originated in the 1920s, during the second half of the 20th century. As the main causes were identified the difficult approach to its own history for generations born in 1940s and 1950s and the state’s interest to influence youth in the frame of unified socialist education.
