Summary/Abstract: Augustus' time is prolific both on a historical level as well as on a literary level. On a historical level, during the beginning of the Empire, the laws given by Augustus are highlighted and meant to restore the life of society according to the model of the respectable Roman family from the past. On a literary level, Augustus' century is considered a significant moment in the evolution of the entire Roman culture, through the existence of three important cultural-political circles of those times - Mecena's, Asinius Pollio's and that of Messala Corvinus - circles that were attended by famous writers of Rome: Vergilius, Horatius, Tibullus, Propertius, Ovidius.
