Summary/Abstract: Based on his experiences in his home continent of Latin America, where many people live on the margins of society, Pope Francis resolutely supports the “excluded”. They often live on and from dumps, are not registered as citizens, their children do not attend schools etc. The article makes it clear that the social doctrine of the church wants to make all people comprehensively partakers of their respective societies in all cultural sectors (politics, economy, education, health). Against the background of social science theories (Luhmann, Olson) he is exemplarily explained that in western industrialized societies as large groups especially the longterm unemployed and migrants are excluded from the full participation in socjety and therefore the integration efforts above all on this must relate to both groups of people.
