Summary/Abstract: The basic assumption of this article on literary translation and translation constraints, is that a translator always leaves traces in his product. This observation is discussed from various angles: from the position of descriptive translation studies, from a cultural-literary perspective, and from the practitioner’s point of view. Special attention is devoted to annotation and other additions. The article ends with a case study on Kafka’s Der Process.
