Summary/Abstract: The subject matter of this study is folklore in the country side and folklore in shows. Specialists have had debates on the authenticity of shows from the point of view of the traditional culture and the degree in which a show can represent it. A folklore show is a concrete reality of this century and the second half of the former century, too; it does not intend to be the sheer copy of the folklore in the villages. A quality folklore show can serve as a means of education to the public, can annihilate former bad stage presentations of a dance or a custom, can draw the attention upon the act of misreading folklore and offer the key of the correct reading. All these can be observed in the folklore shows put on stage by the “Cindrelul-Junii Sibiului” Professional Folk Ensemble.
