Summary/Abstract: The issue of the number of people forming the courts of Polish monarchs has long been a point of interest for historians. The issue that needs to be settled is both the very definition of a court, the people that should be considered its part, as well as the method used to carry out such calculations. Another problem faced by researchers is the scarcity of preserved sources. The paper is aimed at presenting the struggles of the researchers studying the field, their outcome, and the methods they used to achieve it.
