Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the article is to present a current knowledge of material standards of life in the pre-partition Poland against the backdrop of other European countries, especially in comparison with England and Holland. The text describes the existing estimates of real wages and gross domestic product per capita for old Poland and explains, as far as possible, differences between these estimates.
