Summary/Abstract: The society represents the framework regulating the way life unfolds and, just like life, it is in a continuous transformation. The present article reflects the transformation process of the Romanian society in a Transylvanian village along for a century, in what concerns aspects connected to natality. The main sources, which are at the basis of the study are the parish birth registers during 1814–1914 and the census registers for the years 1880 and 1900. On the basis of the demographical analysis, following the examination of the parish registers of those times, we have observed the behavioural modifications of the individuals, achieving a parallel between the legal framework and the actual behaviour. While the legal framework projects what the legislators expected from the individual, the real behaviour reflects what the individual expected from life. Actual behaviour should not, however, be perceived as a decaying of the rural community. It integrates the universe of the village within the evolution of the entire society, in a mental climate specific to a certain epoch. In the end we may state that the behavioural evolution of the individuals in the studied village, related to the problem of natality is inscribed within the behavioural trends of the Transylvanian space during the 19th century.
