Summary/Abstract: The aim of the paper is to analyse the spacial layout of selected small towns which could be classified as private towns, with special emphasis placed on capitals of state countries located near the northern border of Silesia and on ecclesiastical towns. The analysis concerns the ratio of the size of the market square (the main source of income for the owner) to the size of the entire town, main urban and architectural elements, and fortifications distinguishing the towns from ducal centres.
