Summary/Abstract: Petre Pandrea was a well-known Romanian lawyer, also interested in literature. His pleas in favour of different political, ethnic or religious minorities, as well as the fact that he was married to Elisa Pătrăşcanu, the sister of the influential communist leader Lucreţiu Pătrăşcanu attracted the Security’s attention upon him, and he eventually ended up in prison. His experience during the years of detention are partially described and analyzed in his diaries, which were published in Romania after 1989. Petre Pandrea was a very strong personality, very impulsive, unwilling to compromise and paying attention to everything and everyone, labeling people and situation without any mercy. All these make his diaries very interesting works both as life experience and also as literary form.
